In practical terms, when there is a conflict, the place to start is the place closest to the issue. Thus, these are the proper steps in the process:
- Give the situation a 24-hour “reflection period.” Let emotions subside. Go to God in prayer about the situation. Think about the situation, the facts, and how to react or handle the situation.
- Keep the situation between only the people involved. Do not make the situation public knowledge.
- Maintain integrity of all parties involved, do not gossip, and do not bear false testimony against thy neighbor.
- Go to the person you have conflict or concern with, but between the two of you and discuss the situation with the goal of coming to a resolution. Maintain composure and have a calm conversation between parties involved. Most situations can be resolved in this manner.
- If no resolution can be found, take the concern to the principal. The principal will investigate the situation with involved parties, respecting confidentiality. The principal will come to a resolution of the situation. In general, the principal is the final arbiter in the situation.
- In extreme situations, the Chair of the School Board may be contacted to determine next steps
